IRONMAN has just announced a new event as part of race weekend here in Lake Tahoe - IRONMAN 70.3. The scenery that will take your breath away if the 6,000 ft altitude doesn't.
For triathletes everywhere, the IRONMAN Lake Tahoe experience is considered one of the most challenging. Well, the finish line just got a little bit closer with the announcement of IRONMAN 70.3.
At half the distance of the full course, IRONMAN 70.3 will allow even more athletes to compete in one of the most exhilarating race destinations around the world. Lake Tahoe's IRONMAN 70.3 course mirrors the path of the full IRONMAN event with a swim that begins in Kings Beach, a bike course that goes through Tahoe City, Truckee, and Northstar, and a run from Squaw Valley to Tahoe City and back.
From the official IRONMAN web site: "As IRONMAN expands globally, there is an increased desire for athletes from all regions to have similar opportunities," said Steve Meckfessel, Managing Director of Global Race Operations for IRONMAN. "Lake Tahoe is the perfect venue for this program as it allows athletes with different fitness levels and goals to experience everything Lake Tahoe and the surrounding region has to offer."
Athletes and their families are welcome to stay at host hotel Resort at Squaw Creek, minutes from the finish line and along the running course. Suites with kitchens begin at just $249 and a complimentary late check-out allows athletes a full day of recovery with access to their room and all resort amenities. Book online and ask for your late check-out upon check-in.
