Eighth Annual ‘Magical Memories’ Holiday Celebration Returns to Tahoe Resort

Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley Returns as Guest of Honor at Tree Lighting

Olympic Valley, Calif. – Resort at Squaw Creek’s popular annual holiday program, “Magical Memories,” returns on November 22 when the AAA Four-Diamond resort rolls out an impressive array of family-oriented activities, which continue through January 6, 2013.  In celebration of the event, a special $199 “Magical Bed & Breakfast” package featuring a Deluxe Guestroom and breakfast for up to two adults and two children (12-and-under) has been released.  This offer is valid November 22 through December 13, 2012, and is subject to availability.  To book a reservation, utilize promo code: MAGICRSC at www.visitsquawcreek.com, or call 800.401.9501.

“Magical Memories” moves into high gear when the resort becomes a fully-illuminated winter wonderland at the Gingerbread Village Unveiling and Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony.  Drawing hundreds upon hundreds of people each year, this kickoff celebration on Friday, November 23 will include an appearance by Olympic gold medalist Jonny Moseley.  In addition to the appearance by Moseley, local Squaw Valley professional skier, model and Resort at Squaw Creek ski ambassador, Amie Engerbretson, will join the festivities.  Live music, carolers, an ice skating performance by local children, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus and Santa’s merry elves, and complimentary servings of hot chocolate and s’mores roasts under the stars will be part of the extravaganza.  For the official tree lighting, Santa arrives via a classic fire engine.  This event is free to resort guests and the public.

Subsequent Magical Memories days will feature events such as breakfast with Santa, holiday concerts, caroling, children’s holiday crafts, Menorah Lighting, winter wonderland stories with Mrs. Claus, moonlight snowshoe tours, snowman making contests, elf tuck-ins, movies for the kids, and ski film movie nights in Sandy’s Pub.   Major musical presentations are offered on December 8 and 9 with a holiday performance by the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus, and on December 23 with Handel’s Messiah performed by TOCCATA.   Free local school musical performances take place on November 28, and December 5 and 12.

Resort chefs are creating holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve; a family-friendly dinner and gala takes place on New Year’s Eve in the Grand Sierra Ballroom featuring dancing, a sparkling cider and champagne toast with balloon drop at 9:00 PM for children and an adult-oriented champagne toast at midnight.
