High-Rise Fire Drill to Take Place at Resort at Squaw Creek
Resort Aids Key Training for Local Agencies
Olympic Valley, Calif. – The Squaw Valley Fire Department, along with several other regional firefighting agencies, will be conducting a high-rise training drill at Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley on Wednesday, May 5, at 10:00 AM. Utilizing the resort’s 9-story lodging tower, the training will enhance emergency response preparedness for high-rise events in the area.
“As the tallest building in the region, the Resort at Squaw Creek offers an excellent site to practice the physical and organizational elements of firefighting in a high-rise structure,” said Squaw Valley Fire Department Chief Pete Bansen. “We’re able to practice evacuation, search, ventilation and command functions with the people that would be responding to this or another large facility in the event of a real emergency.”
In addition to the Squaw Valley Fire Department, CALFire, Meeks Bay Fire Protection District, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District (Incline Village, Nevada), North Tahoe Fire Protection District, Northstar Fire Department, and the Truckee Fire Protection District will be participating in the drills.
“Since the Resort will be closed for deep-cleaning and maintenance from May 2nd through May 7th, our guests will not be impacted in any way by the training,” said John Lilly, security director at Resort at Squaw Creek. “The timing works out well.”
