Hole-in-One Shot on Resort at Squaw Creek's Challenging Championship Golf Course
Resort at Squaw Creek’s Robert Trent Jones’s, Jr. Championship Golf Course’s 7th Hole proved no match for Truckee resident
Olympic Valley, Calif. - Resort at Squaw Creek's Robert Trent Jones's, Jr. Championship Golf Course's 7th Hole proved no match for Truckee resident, David Orebaugh. On the 333-yard hole - a par-4 -- Orebaugh launched a powerful drive with his Cleveland Hibor driver that cleared a wetland area in front of the green and ultimately finished in the cup. Because the hole is brush-guarded and at a substantial distance from the tee, Orebaugh and his golfing partner, Josh Crawford, searched the brush for 5-10 minutes. In fact, Orebaugh played another ball. It wasn't until the pair removed the pin that they found the missing ball in the cup. "A hole-in-one on a par-4 is extremely rare," said Carrie Degree, Assistant Golf Professional at Resort at Squaw Creek. I don't recall a hole-in-one ever shot on the 7th. Resort at Squaw Creek's Audubon Certified golf course will be closing for the season on October 8. However, the course will reopen mid-May 2008. During the winter months the course serves as a winter recreation site for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding.
