Hundreds Gather to Launch Resort at Squaw Creek's Magical Memories

46-Day Celebration Continues Through January 6

Olympic Valley, Calif. - Several hundred locals and visitors attended the November 23 kick-off for Magical Memories, Resort at Squaw Creek's popular holiday program which continues through January 6. The event-packed evening featured music by pianist Tim Callicrate, carolers from the Great Basin Chorus, the Gingerbread Village debut, Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony, ice skating with Buddy Bear and photos with Santa. Complimentary hot chocolate and cider warmed guests by the s'more roasting fire pits waiting for Santa's arrival.

In upcoming weeks, Magical Memories features numerous Wednesday evening locals' events including a locals' party (4-8 PM), locals' ice skating (4-8 PM), and locals' cookies and hot chocolate (6:30-8 PM) On Thursdays, a manager's wine reception takes place from 5-6 PM. Additional Magical Memories activities include aprés ski musical entertainment, winter wonderland stories, build-a-bear workshops, a Polar Bear Plunge, and several culinary events. The Gingerbread Village, which is on display daily throughout Magical Memories, was built with 1,400 pounds of gingerbread and 500 pounds of icing. Executive Chef Jacques Cornelis, Pastry Chef Maarten Van Kruyssen and a team of assistants spent over 200 hours constructing the village. Along with the Gingerbread Village, the resort is decked-out in holiday lights and decorations. The ice rink is open daily.

"We like to share the fun of this season with our friends in the community," said Richard McLennan, Resort at Squaw Creek General Manager. "For locals and visitors alike, we have plenty of activities lined up."

For those looking for an overnight stay, a special $199 "Magical Bed & Breakfast" package featuring a Deluxe Guestroom for up to two adults and two children (12 and under) is available at the AAA Four-Diamond resort, a Destination Hotels & Resorts property, through December 19, 2007, subject to availability.

The resort's ski-in, ski-out chairlift to Squaw Valley USA provides quick access to more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 chairlifts including North America's only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift. Visitors also can enjoy a host of other activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sled tours and an on-property ice skating rink. Plus, the property's on-site ski shop provides ski and snowboard rentals, expert boot fitting, lift tickets for purchase and complimentary ski lockers. Squaw Valley USA is currently open for skiing and riding on a limited basis.
