Kids Offered Tour of Squaw Creek Ahead of Amgen Tour of California
Fun Bike Race Takes Place at Resort at Squaw Creek™
Olympic Valley, Calif. – Before the international contingent of world-class athletes tackle Lake Tahoe for the first two stages of the Amgen Tour of California, which begins on May 15, Resort at Squaw Creek™ will give children ages 5 to 12 an opportunity to test their race skills, all for fun, of course, during the Tour of Squaw Creek. The Tour of Squaw Creek takes place on Saturday, May 14 on Resort at Squaw Creek’s exclusive kid-friendly course. Participants can ride in one of two age divisions. The 5-8 age group will ride one lap of the course at 11:30 AM, and the 9-12 age group will ride two laps of the nearly mile-long course at noon. The registration fee is $5 per child. Prizes will be awarded for race winners and best bike decoration.
The race is the brainchild of Joel Walker, resort manager at Resort at Squaw Creek. “Kids and bikes just go together,” said Walker. “With this big race coming to town, we thought why not offer something fun for kids to do during the Amgen Tour of California kickoff weekend to generate a little extra excitement.”
Participants must bring their own bike, and arrival at least 30 minutes prior to the race is recommended to complete final registrant information.
For more information, or to register for the Tour of Squaw Creek, call the Resort at Squaw Creek™ Recreation Department at 530.583.6300.
Also, to ramp up the enthusiasm for the Amgen Tour of California, Sandy’s Pub will have a bike-themed “Cycling Soiree” on Sunday, May 15 with food and drink specials including four sliders with American cheese and caramelized onions on a toasted garlic bun for only $5.
The Amgen Tour of California begins on Sunday, May 15 with a Stage 1 start at the state line in South Lake Tahoe. Riders will take one-and-a-half laps around Lake Tahoe, and then climb Brockway Summit to finish at Northstar-at-Tahoe. The Stage 2 start on May 16 begins under the Olympic rings at the base of Squaw Valley USA in Squaw Valley, and has riders climb over Donner Pass en route to Sacramento.
