Magical Memories 7th Annual Holiday Celebration Returns to Tahoe Resort
Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley is Guest of Honor
Olympic Valley, Calif. – Resort at Squaw Creek’s popular annual holiday program, “Magical Memories,” returns on November 24 when the AAA Four-Diamond resort rolls out an impressive array of family-oriented activities, which continue through January 8, 2012. In celebration of the event, a special $189 “Magical Bed & Breakfast” package featuring a Deluxe Guestroom and breakfast for up to two adults and two children (12-and-under) has been released. This offer is valid November 22 through December 15, 2011, and is subject to availability. To book a reservation, utilize promo code: MAGICRSC at www.visitsquawcreek.com, or call 800.401.9501.
“Magical Memories” moves into high gear when the resort becomes a fully-illuminated winter wonderland at the Gingerbread Village Unveiling and Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony. Drawing hundreds upon hundreds of people each year, this kickoff celebration on Friday, November 25 will include an appearance by Olympic gold medalist and ski movie star Jonny Moseley. Moseley is a former member of the Squaw Valley Freestyle Team and U.S. Ski Team. He won the gold medal in moguls at 1998 Winter Olympic in Nagano, Japan. He was named "Sportsman of the Year" (1998) by the U.S. Olympic Committee and has been featured on the cover of Freeskier and Rolling Stone magazines. He was also chosen to be the traditional post-Olympics athlete host of Saturday Night Live in 2002. In addition to the appearance by Moseley, who recently appeared on ABC’s “Skating with the Stars”, local Squaw Valley professional skier and model, Amie Engerbretson, will join the festivities. Live music, carolers, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus and Santa’s merry elves, and complimentary servings of hot chocolate and s’mores roasts under the stars will be part of the extravaganza. For the official tree lighting, Santa arrives via a classic fire engine. This event is free to resort guests and the public.
Subsequent Magical Memories days will feature events such as breakfast with Santa, holiday concerts, caroling, children’s holiday crafts, an ice carving demonstration, Menorah Lighting, winter wonderland stories, moonlight snowshoe tours, snowman making contests, elf tuck-ins, movies for the kids, and ski film movie nights in Sandy’s Pub. Major musical presentations are offered on December 10 and 11 with a holiday performance by the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus, and on December 16 with Handel’s Messiah performed by TOCCATA.
On New Year’s Day, a legion of brave souls will greet 2012 with an icy splash into one of the resort’s unheated swimming pools for the Polar Bear Plunge. Of course, the heated main swimming pool and hot tubs will offer a warm-up following the dip. Hot chocolate will be awaiting the participants afterward, and a prize. Throughout New Year’s Day the traditional football bowl games aired on big screen televisions at Sandy’s Pub.
Resort chefs are creating holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve; a family-friendly dinner and gala takes place on New Year’s Eve in the Grand Sierra Ballroom featuring dancing, a sparkling cider toast with balloon drop at 9:00 PM for children and an adult-oriented champagne toast at midnight.
The resort’s ski-in, ski-out chairlift to Squaw Valley USA provides quick access to more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 lifts including North America’s only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift. Visitors also can enjoy a host of other activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sled tours and horse-drawn sleigh rides. Plus, the property’s on-site ski shop provides ski and snowboard rentals, expert boot fitting, lift tickets for purchase and complimentary ski lockers. Squaw Valley USA’s planned opening date is November 23.
