Magical Memories Brings Music to Resort at Squaw Creek™
Classical to contemporary, solo to orchestra, holiday tunes abound
Olympic Valley, Calif. – The 6th annual Magical Memories holiday celebration at Resort at Squaw Creek™, which runs November 24 through January 2, features something for every musical taste, from live music on weekends to carolers to solo performances to major concert events.
During “Local’s Evenings,” which take place on Wednesdays, local schools will offer free performances in the lobby at 5 PM. On December 1, the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band will perform. On December 8, Glenshire Elementary School will showcase their music talent. “Local’s Evenings” also offer free ice skating, cookies and hot cocoa, and discounts in selected restaurants and retail outlets.
The Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus (TTCC) of Sierra College, directed by Susan K. Horst, Chris Nelson, and Dr. Thomas Acord will present “Sounds of the Season” on Saturday, December 11 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, December 12 at 2:00 pm. The program will include light holiday selections, choral classics, and holiday music from around the world. All children will be admitted free of charge and are invited to join the chorus on stage for the traditional sing along at the conclusion of the concert. On Sunday, December 19 at 3:00 PM, The Orchestra and Community Choral Artists of the Tahoe Area (TOCCATA) pair with TTCC to presents Handel’s “Messiah” along with other holiday favorites. This event features TOCCATA Chamber Orchestra and Chorus with soloists Tammy Brock, Joy Strotz and Anna Helwing, sopranos; Marianne Ashley and Susan Benefield, mezzo sopranos; Andy Sonnemaker and John Hutto, tenors; and Stuart Duke, baritone. Weekends at Resort at Squaw Creek will offer live après ski music on the sun deck with a variety of performers throughout the celebration and winter season. Pianist Tim Callicrate performs December 3, 11, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31, and January 1, 2 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Singer and songwriter Darin Talbot performs every Saturday throughout the entire Magical Memories celebration at the outdoor Chuckwagon venue from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Sundays will feature a solo guitarist to entertain guests.
To add that true holiday flavor, the Great Basin Carolers perform from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on November 26 and 27, and December 4, 11, and 18.
Magical Memories features a wide array of recreational, culinary, and holiday-themed events to complement the musical performances. During the Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 26, two-time Olympic medalist Shannon Bahrke makes an appearance as the special guest of honor. A group of local children will ice skate to holiday music Resort at Squaw Creek’s ice rink. Carolers, sleigh rides, s’mores and other holiday activities take place on the evening of the Gingerbread Village Unveiling and Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony. Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance to flip the switch on the lights that illuminate the entire resort. Events that evening run from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The resort’s ski-in, ski-out chairlift to Squaw Valley USA provides quick access to more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 lifts including North America’s only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift.
