Magical Memories Returns to Resort at Squaw Creek
November 23, 2009 - January 3, 2010
Olympic Valley, Calif. – Resort at Squaw Creek’s popular annual holiday program, “Magical Memories,” returns on November 23 when the AAA Four-Diamond resort rolls out an impressive array of family-oriented activities, which continue through January 3, 2010. In celebration of the event, a special $179 “Magical Bed & Breakfast” package featuring a Deluxe Guestroom and breakfast for up to two adults and two children (12-and-under) has been released. This offer is valid from November 16, through December 17, 2009, and is subject to availability. To book a reservation, utilize promo code: MAGICRSC at www.visitsquawcreek.com, or call 800.401.9501.
“Magical Memories” moves into high gear when the resort becomes a fully-illuminated winter wonderland at the Gingerbread Village Unveiling and Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony. Drawing hundreds of people each year, this kickoff celebration on November 27, will feature special guest Peggy Fleming, Olympic gold medalist and skating legend, in addition to live music, carolers, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus and Santa’s merry elves, ice skating with Buddy Bear, complimentary servings of hot chocolate and s’mores roasts under the stars. This event is free to resort guests and the public.
Subsequent days will feature events such as breakfast with Santa, live après ski music, children’s holiday crafts, winter wonderland stories, ice skating with Buddy Bear, moonlight snowshoe tours, snowman making contests, elf tuck-Ins, movies for the kids, and ski film movie nights in Sandy’s Pub. Major musical presentations are offered on December 12 and 13 with a holiday performance by the Truckee Community Chorus, and TOCCATA’s performance of Handel’s “Messiah” takes place on December 20.
On New Year’s Day, from 11 a.m. to noon, a legion of brave souls will greet 2010 with an icy splash into one of the resort’s unheated swimming pools for the Polar Bear Plunge. Hot chocolate will be awaiting the participants afterward, and a prize, as well as the traditional football bowl games aired on big screen televisions at Sandy’s Pub.
Resort chefs are creating holiday meals on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and a family friendly gala takes place on New Year’s Eve with a sparkling cider toast at 9:00 PM for children and an adult-oriented champagne toast at midnight.
The resort’s ski-in, ski-out chairlift to Squaw Valley USA provides quick access to more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 lifts including North America’s only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift. Visitors also can enjoy a host of other activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sled tours, horse-drawn sleigh rides and an on-property ice skating rink. Plus, the property’s on-site ski shop provides ski and snowboard rentals, expert boot fitting, lift tickets for purchase and complimentary ski lockers. Squaw Valley USA traditionally opens in late November.
