Music and Merriment at Resort at Squaw Creek’s Magical Memories
Many dinner and show packages
Olympic Valley, Calif. – Resort at Squaw Creek’s Magical Memories celebration, which runs from November 23 through January 3, has added more music to the 5th annual holiday event. From live music on weekends, to carolers to major concert events, Magical Memories will offer something to suit every taste.
During “local’s evenings,” which take place on Wednesdays -- December 2, 9, and 16 -- local schools will offer free performances in the lobby. Glenshire Elementary performs on December 2, and North Tahoe High School musicians present a concert on December 9. Truckee High School students present holiday music on December 16. All performances begin at 5:00 PM. “Local’s evenings” also offer free ice skating, cookies and hot cocoa.
The Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus of Sierra College, directed by Susan K. Horst, Chris Nelson, and Tom Acord, presents “Classically Christmas” on Saturday, December 12 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, December 13 at 4:00 PM. The concert has become a tradition in the Truckee, North Tahoe region, ushering in the holiday season with light holiday classics, an audience sing along, and joyous classic literature. The chorus and strings will feature Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and selections from Handel’s Messiah. Tickets run from $11 to $20. For more information visit www.singttcc.org.
On Saturday, December 19 at 7:30 PM, Nevada Shakespeare Company and The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival present Charles Dickens' memorable classic, A Christmas Carol. Led by Managing Artistic Director Cameron Crain and Company Manager Joe Atack, Nevada Shakespeare boasts an extraordinary cast and crew of the Reno-Tahoe region's finest performers, designers and directors. On Sunday, December 20, TOCATTA presents Handel’s “Messiah” along with other holiday favorites. This event features TOCCATA Chamber Orchestra and Chorus with soloists Tammy Brock, Joy Strotz and Anna Helwing, sopranos; Marianne Ashley and Susan Benefield, mezzo sopranos; Andy Sonnemaker and John Hutto, tenors; and Stuart Duke, baritone. Weekends at Resort at Squaw Creek will offer live après ski music on the sun deck with a variety of performers throughout the celebration and winter season. Pianist Tim Callicrate performs in the lobby on Friday nights.
Magical Memories features a wide array of recreational, culinary, and holiday-themed events to complement the musical performances. During the Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 27, Olympic gold medalist and skating legend Peggy Fleming will join a group of local children on Resort at Squaw Creek’s ice rink for a couple of holiday numbers. Carolers, sleigh rides, s’mores and chestnut roasts, and other holiday activities precede the Grand Tree Lighting Celebration, which takes place at the resort’s ice rink. Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance to flip the switch on the lights that illuminate the entire resort. Events that evening run from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The resort’s ski-in, ski-out chairlift to Squaw Valley USA provides quick access to more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 lifts including North America’s only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift.
