Nordic Center, Sleigh Rides and Dog Sledding Open

Ice skating offered too

OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. - Abundant snowfall in the Lake Tahoe region has provided Resort at Squaw Creek's meadowlands plenty of snow to open the Nordic Center, in addition to commencing the season for horse-drawn sleigh rides and dog sledding.  Squaw Valley USA is also open for skiing and riding with 15 lifts, and more to open soon, including the Squaw Creek chairlift, which provides ski-in, ski-out access to AAA Four-Diamond Resort at Squaw Creek.

The Nordic Center offers a complete rental shop for cross-country ski equipment and snowshoes.  It also provides easy access to 18 kilometers of groomed tracks and skating lanes.  Lessons are available.  For more information and ticket prices visit http://www.visitsquawcreek.com/, or call 530.583.6300.

The picturesque valley is also the location for hour-long dog sled tours.  Dog sled tours offer guests of nearly any age, including guests with disabilities, to travel through Squaw Valley in a memorable fashion.  The tours generally run 1-hour.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 530.550.8133.  Rates range from $45 - $75 for children, and $95 - $125 for adults, based on midweek, weekend, and holiday rates.  A minimum of $125 per sled is required.

Also, Resort at Squaw Creek will once again offer horse-drawn sleigh rides.  A popular activity for families or those on a romantic getaway, the approximately 30-minute sleigh rides through the meadow range from $30 - $40 per person, with minimum requirements per sleigh.  For reservations call 775.297.4989.

Resort at Squaw Creek also offers on-property ice skating.  And guests looking for a mountaintop ice rink with views of Lake Tahoe can ride the Cable Car at Squaw Valley USA to the rink at High Camp.

Resort at Squaw Creek offers 405 luxurious rooms and suites, full-service spa, a shopping promenade and four distinctive restaurants, including the remodeled and reinvented slope-side Ristorante Montagana and Wine Bar, with an all-new European-influenced menu, which is open for lunch, après ski, and dinner.  Additionally, a massive new outdoor stone fireplace awaits guests this year on the Chuckwagon Deck, where local musician and songwriter Darin Talbot plays on Saturdays.  The resort also features a year-round pool and hot tub complex with what Skiing Magazine recently touted as the "best hot tub" of any mountain resort.

The resort's ski-in, ski-out chairlift to Squaw Valley USA provides quick access to more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 lifts including North America's only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift.  Plus, the property's on-site ski shop provides ski and snowboard rentals, expert boot fitting, lift tickets for purchase and complimentary ski lockers.  Squaw Valley USA traditionally offers skiing and riding through May.
