Resort at Squaw Creek, A Destination Hotel, Introduces FootGolf on Links at Squaw Creek this Summer
OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. – May 20, 2016 – Eric Veraguth, director of golf at the Links at Squaw Creek, recently announced the golf course will introduce FootGolf this summer. The Links, located at Resort at Squaw Creek, A Destination Hotels, will offer FootGolf play every Monday from 5 p.m. until dark. A precision sport, FootGolf is a combination of soccer and golf – participants play with a standard soccer ball and kick it into a 21-inch diameter cup. As in golf, the goal is to make it into the hole with as few shots as possible.
“FootGolf is becoming an incredibly popular way to utilize golf courses and maximize play,” said Veraguth. “We thought this would be a fun way for our guests and locals to get out on the course and try a new sport; a great way to enjoy a Monday night!”
FootGolf play begins Monday, May 30. Cost is $20 per adult and includes a complimentary beer. Kids are $10 and there is a $5 ball rental fee. Players can bring their own soccer ball. For tee times, please call the Golf Pro Shop at (530) 581-6637.
According to the American FootGolf League website, the origins of FootGolf are unclear as they can be attributed to many countries or people at the same time, as early as 2001. The first nine-hole FootGolf tournament on a golf course, and played as the sport is know today, was organized in the Netherlands in 2008 by Michael Jansen and Bas Korsten, and played by a mix of Dutch and Belgian professional footballers.
The American FootGolf League was founded in 2011. The game was internationally publicized, and countries worldwide started collaborating on the development of the game. FootGolf has been recognized or is in the process of being recognized as a sport in many countries.
