Resort at Squaw Creek™ Acknowledged as TripAdvisor GreenLeader
Eco programs are part of Destination Earth
Olympic Valley, Calif. – Resort at Squaw Creek™ has once again been acknowledged for its eco-friendly practices. TripAdvisor has recognized the resort’s green practices through the GreenLeader program, bestowing a Bronze-level certification on the resort. To achieve GreenLeader status, hotels and resorts must meet strict requirements for eco-friendliness, including having a towel and linen re-use program, using energy-efficient light bulbs, tracking energy usage, recycling, and educating staff and guests on green practices.
“Once again, we’re honored to have our green programs recognized,” said Claudia Martinello, leader of the Green Team at Resort at Squaw Creek. “We have put a comprehensive sustainability program in place with our Destination Earth program, and we’re constantly improving upon what we have accomplished so far.”
Resort at Squaw Creek™ has other eco-friendly designations including Green Key Global award, granting the resort “4 Green Keys” in their eco-rating program for accomplishments in environmental management and corporate social responsibility. More specifically, the award signifies that the resort has shown national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide ranging policies and practices. Mature programs that involve management, employees, guests, and the public have shown substantial and measurable results.
The resort in Destination Earth, which is Destination Hotels and Resorts company-wide green program. Via Destination Earth the resort has implemented over 100 environmental initiatives since the inception of the program in 2008. The eco-friendly program elements include decreasing energy and water usage, reducing waste, increasing recycling, and purchasing local and organic food and beverages when possible. Additionally, Resort at Squaw Creek™ offers a green meetings program, which maximizes waste diversion from meetings and conferences and increases overall environmental awareness among hotel guests.
Furthermore, Resort at Squaw Creek’s Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf course is also designated as an Audubon Certified Cooperative Sanctuary, a designation given for excellence in environmental stewardship. No artificial pesticides, herbicides or fungicides are utilized in the caretaking of the course.
