Resort at Squaw Creek in Lake Tahoe Kicks Off 2014 Winter Festival

80s-Themed Ice Skating, Sledding Competitions and Duck Races Among Activities Throughout February


OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. – Feb. 6, 2014 – Today, Resort at Squaw Creek, by Destination Hotels & Resorts, kicks off a month-long calendar of exciting events and activities in Lake Tahoe with its 2014 Winter Festival. Family winter games, retro ice skating and duck races are among the entertaining options available throughout the month. Guests can play and stay at Resort at Squaw Creek beginning at $179 per night throughout February.

The Resort at Squaw Creek 2014 Winter Festival runs Feb. 6-23, 2014. Daily activities include International Beer Buckets in Sandy’s Pub from 7-9 p.m. featuring beers from around the world for $16. Each Friday throughout the month will be the Fanny Pack Comeback at the Resort at Squaw Creek’s ice skating rink. Guests who wear 1980s retro outfits and anyone donning a fanny pack receive a complimentary hot chocolate. Music from the 1980s will play throughout the day at the skating rink as well.

Each Saturday the resort will host a Family Winter Games sledding race at the yurt at 2 p.m. followed by kid-friendly games at the ice skating rink from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. Duck Races will take place Saturdays at 3 and 3:30 p.m. down the 250-foot waterfall. Ducks can be purchased at Sandy’s Pub. Cost is $5 for two ducks. Saturday festivities wind down with an International Wine Relay, which begins at 4 p.m. in Sandy’s Pub. Participants will visit four different outlets throughout the resort to sample wines from around the world. For example, Riesling will be featured at Sandy’s Pub, while Chianti will be available at Sweet Potatoes Deli.

Skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the convenient ski-in, ski out access Resort at Squaw Creek offers to Squaw Valley and the fresh snow the resort has received over the last two weeks.
