Resort at Squaw Creek™ New Year’s Eve Party Expands

Dining, music, live entertainment suited for all ages

Olympic Valley, Calif. – Resort at Squaw Creek™ has reinvented its family-friendly New Year’s Eve Holiday Party to become a complete night of entertainment in the Grand Sierra Ballroom.  Once the doors open at 7:00 PM, the evening will feature an expansive gourmet buffet, with kid’s buffet, and a magician to entertain guests while dining.  At 9:00 PM, a balloon drop with sparkling cider toast, ideal for all ages, takes place.  At 9:15 PM, comedian Rick D’Elia, who has appeared on Comedy Central and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, takes the stage to add a little PG-rated humor to the evening.  After his routine, a DJ spins dance-beat tunes leading up to the champagne toast and balloon drop to ring in the New Year at midnight local time.  An array of late night appetizers, including Kobe beef sliders and rolled chicken quesadillas, will be served prior to midnight balloon drop.

Tickets for the event are $75 for adults and $25 for children ages 4 to 12.  Prices are plus tax and gratuity.  Children 3-and-under are free.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 530.581.6686.   In an adjacent ballroom movies for younger children will be offered in a supervised environment, so parents do not have to worry about children getting too tired for the late night festivities.

Items at the buffet include delectable cuisine such as Pacific oysters, peel and eat shrimp, stone crab claws and spicy cocktail sauce with fresh sliced lemons and horseradish.  Hot entrees include items such as Chianti-braised veal with tomato and mushroom parmesan whipped potato mousseline, pan-seared Pacific crab cakes with roasted garlic aioli and citrus beurre blanc, braised radicchio and arugula, and tri-peppercorn crusted New York Sirloin.  Dessert offers numerous selections including mini praline cheesecake, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and white chocolate and raspberry mousse parfaits.  The children’s buffet features mini pizzas, chicken tenders and other dishes suited for a younger palate.

Continuing Magical Memories holiday celebration events take place on New Year’s Day, from 11 a.m. to noon, when a legion of brave souls have the opportunity to greet 2011 with an icy splash into one of the resort’s unheated swimming pools for the annual Polar Bear Plunge.  Of course, the heated main swimming pool and hot tubs will offer a warm-up following the dip.  Hot chocolate will be awaiting the participants afterward, and a prize.  Throughout New Year’s Day the traditional football bowl games aired on big screen televisions at Sandy’s Pub.

The resort’s ski-in, ski-out chairlift to Squaw Valley USA provides quick access to more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 lifts including North America’s only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift.  Visitors also can enjoy a host of other activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sled tours, horse-drawn sleigh rides and an on-property ice skating rink.  Plus, the property’s on-site ski shop provides ski and snowboard rentals, expert boot fitting, lift tickets for purchase and complimentary ski lockers.  Squaw Valley USA’s planned opening date is November 20.
