Squaw Valley USA Records Over 15 Feet of Snowfall in January

North Lake Tahoe Resort a Powder Mecca

Olympic Valley, Calif. - With storms that nearly linked together from the beginning of the month, snowfall at Squaw Valley USA totaled over 15 feet in January alone, leaving the AAA Four-Diamond Resort at Squaw Creek as the ultimate base camp to some of the best ski conditions in the nation. While not a record, it does amount to one of the snowiest Januarys in recent history, covering both the mountains and valley that provide on-property Nordic skiing and dog sledding at Resort at Squaw Creek with abundant powder.

The National Weather Service is calling for more snow through the weekend, with several additional feet possible at the highest elevations by Monday.

"We are in the midst of one of the best winters in recent memory," said Richard McLennan, Resort at Squaw Creek General Manager. "Skiers and boarders who didn't get enough time in the mountains last year will want to take full advantage of all this fresh snow. It's great for all outdoor winter pursuits."

The ski-in, ski-out Resort at Squaw Creek continues to offer the "Snow Celebration" special, granting 20%-off midweek stays through March 31, 2008. Blackout dates apply. For reservations visit http://www.visitsquawcreek.com/, or call 800.401.9501.

On February 3, Squaw Valley USA, site of the 1960 Winter Olympics, is offering complete beginner "Learn-to-Ski-or-Ride" packages for $35.

Recently recognized as one of Condé Nast Traveler's "Top 50 Ski Hotels" in North America, the 405-room and suite Resort at Squaw Creek, a Destination Hotels & Resorts-managed property, offers quick access to Squaw Valley USA's more than 4,000 acres of terrain served by an extensive network of 33 chairlifts including North America's only Funitel and the world-famous KT-22 Express lift. Visitors also can enjoy a host of other activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sled tours and an on-property ice skating rink. Plus, the property's on-site ski shop provides ski and snowboard rentals, expert boot fitting, lift tickets for purchase and complimentary ski lockers. Squaw Valley USA is currently open for skiing and riding on the entire mountain.
