‘Vintage Tahoe’ Package Celebrates California Wine Month
Resort at Squaw Creek™ and Truckee River Winery Pair
Olympic Valley, Calif. – AAA Four-Diamond Resort at Squaw Creek™ and Truckee River Winery, the “highest and coldest” winery in California, have teamed together to create the “Vintage Tahoe Wine & Dine Package.” The California Wine Month celebration package includes a stay in a Deluxe Guestroom at the resort, Chef’s Tasting dinner for two in Six Peaks Grille, a bottle of Truckee River Winery Pinot Noir, and a VIP barrel tasting at the winery. The package starts at $299 per night, per room and is available Friday and Saturday nights through September. Rates are subject to availability and restrictions apply.
The dinner will include a nitrogen enhanced wine dessert, created by Chef de Cuisine Chad Shrewsbury, who often utilizes molecular gastronomy in his culinary creations.
Truckee River Winery was established 21 years ago with the vision of sourcing quality grapes, bringing the fruit to Truckee to take advantage of the high elevation and cold temperatures to naturally cool the fermentation and slow down the barrel aging process, thereby becoming the “highest and coldest” winery in California.
The limited production 2006 Garys’ Vineyard Pinot Noir is carefully handcrafted in Truckee. The grapes are transported in a refrigerated truck, then crushed and cold soaked for up to four days. Fermentation starts slow because of the cool nights in Truckee and then ends strong about four weeks later. The barrel aging cellars are kept at a cool 50-55 F. The grapes are aged in 60% new French oak for a minimum of 18 months. The result is a very delicate Pinot with the complexity, depth, and soft tannins that the Pisoni clone brings out.
In addition to the tasting room, the winery features bocce ball courts, croquet, and horseshoes.
